Fue (Follicle Unit Extraction)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a modern and minimally invasive surgical technique used in hair transplantation. FUE is a method of harvesting individual hair follicles directly from the donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp, and then transplanting them into the recipient area where hair is thinning or has been lost. This procedure is commonly used to treat male pattern baldness but can also be employed for other types of hair loss.

Here's an overview of the FUE process:

  1. Donor Area Identification: The surgeon identifies the areas on the scalp with healthy hair follicles that are resistant to the effects of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the hormone responsible for most cases of male pattern baldness.

  2. Hair Follicle Extraction: Using a specialized micro-surgical tool, such as a punch or a robotic system, individual hair follicles are carefully extracted one at a time from the donor area. This extraction process leaves tiny, circular incisions that typically heal without noticeable scars.

  3. Recipient Site Preparation: The surgeon prepares the recipient area by creating tiny incisions where the extracted hair follicles will be transplanted. These incisions are strategically placed to achieve a natural-looking distribution of the transplanted hair.

  4. Hair Follicle Transplantation: The individual hair follicles are meticulously placed into the recipient sites, taking into consideration the natural direction and angle of hair growth.

Advantages of FUE:

  1. Minimally Invasive: FUE is less invasive compared to Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which involves removing a strip of skin from the donor area.

  2. No Linear Scarring: Since individual follicles are extracted, FUE leaves small, dot-like scars that are less noticeable than the linear scar associated with FUT.

  3. Quick Healing: Patients usually experience a quicker recovery with less postoperative discomfort compared to traditional hair transplant methods.

  4. Suitable for Short Hair Styles: FUE is a preferred option for individuals who prefer to keep their hair short, as the extraction method doesn't leave a linear scar.

FUE is a highly effective and popular method for hair transplantation, offering natural-looking results with minimal scarring. The success of the procedure depends on factors such as the skill of the surgeon, the quality of the donor hair, and the overall health of the patient's scalp.
